I'm not against digital streams of media, but would like to encourage all of you to keep your handwriting Beautiful, Good and Truthful. Many of these texts have been changed along the way. There is an acoustic / ascetic "band" called Thirst, playing on a broken-hearted flagship, my half-broken Landola Maestro (from 1988) named after the Hospitaller St. Anne.Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comBlogger29125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-78392954006480490112022-06-19T01:14:00.017+03:002023-11-10T08:28:52.396+02:00Tarotin maailmasta – pelilauta ilman peliä<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrjSouXJtNYfTWm9gkMQm8Pk_jAysRQ0cN7CtsnyFGZnAyWs8cS0C-japGd_NpFUnzlix2U2ztkSci_JMWcDza3FZI6cuEksmvhdXrtCr38vz3v3uFdJ6l00_5gfzm4pwFrDKh8OV4IQMtm3XZWU4XJE1-rP2ebmu8AxzaLk1wPRHeDHOiCWjtKbaG5o/s2048/P9120562.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrjSouXJtNYfTWm9gkMQm8Pk_jAysRQ0cN7CtsnyFGZnAyWs8cS0C-japGd_NpFUnzlix2U2ztkSci_JMWcDza3FZI6cuEksmvhdXrtCr38vz3v3uFdJ6l00_5gfzm4pwFrDKh8OV4IQMtm3XZWU4XJE1-rP2ebmu8AxzaLk1wPRHeDHOiCWjtKbaG5o/s320/P9120562.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Tutustuin Tarotin ihmeelliseen maailmaan vuonna 1997, kun ystäväni kanssa ostimme yhteisvoimin Aleister Crowleyn kirjoja. Silloin tutustuin toiseen Kalevalasta ammentaneeseen versioon, Seppo Huunosen <i>Uuden laulun Kalevalan</i> oheen merkittyihin ”kalevalaisiin kosmogrammeihin”, joita on 22 erilaista kuten Tarotissa on Suurten Salaisuuksien kortteja. Yhtälailla kiistellyt Suuret Salaisuudet saivat nykyisin tunnustetun muotonsa renessanssiajan Italiassa 1400-luvulla.</div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTOuX5xAuhKmV5202anFhQP5OKTAWJTi1cHwGllp-l6mNOiOeSQovS1MX4jgzbCn1D8xdJ3mCDD8lRPQQMZq3DTC5Ku4yeCa4rp9RE2OLYhPDMXz3_U2-f4ETLo1iNpXCCxpsQr-nQ7KRrjHDJ_77p7QUlrA02pPwMRtYxyx3mZsT7V5ujfRmyUm-2oog/s1610/ULK-kirjan%20takakansi%20ja%20sis%C3%A4lt%C3%B6kuvaus.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1610" data-original-width="1107" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTOuX5xAuhKmV5202anFhQP5OKTAWJTi1cHwGllp-l6mNOiOeSQovS1MX4jgzbCn1D8xdJ3mCDD8lRPQQMZq3DTC5Ku4yeCa4rp9RE2OLYhPDMXz3_U2-f4ETLo1iNpXCCxpsQr-nQ7KRrjHDJ_77p7QUlrA02pPwMRtYxyx3mZsT7V5ujfRmyUm-2oog/w275-h400/ULK-kirjan%20takakansi%20ja%20sis%C3%A4lt%C3%B6kuvaus.jpg" width="275" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;">Huunosen kohdalla kyseeesä ei ole Tarot kortteina ilmentyen (vaikka kosmogrammien alkuperäinen nimi olikin Kalevala Tarokki, joka jäi lopulta julkaisematta erillisenä versiona). Ennen <i>Uuden laulun Kalevalaan</i> tutustumistani olin jo yhdistänyt Tarot-järjestelmän pelilautaani ja todennut niiden välisen yhteenvirtaavuuden olevan jossain määrin todellisuutta. Tästä oli Steineriltakin vakavia varoituksia, joihin liittyen voin todeta yrittäneeni ottaa opiksi.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieXnTQWs0btx2tcBysqbIXlKhVs7rEkfy-sOw_5Muoo02_Ua3NBWNcOX6imrOWHt1vswYatcpuPU7xaUKjHIADGZkfRj288MqPqs3b9yqg_AcBIna_BrAVWHsR4f4niFEvPaCloxFjgSG21mI00suqZqITs5dWcmukFSRMt0SBuyiTNlnD2GEhAClfbYQ/s305/Kaleva%20kosmogrammi.bmp" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="239" data-original-width="305" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieXnTQWs0btx2tcBysqbIXlKhVs7rEkfy-sOw_5Muoo02_Ua3NBWNcOX6imrOWHt1vswYatcpuPU7xaUKjHIADGZkfRj288MqPqs3b9yqg_AcBIna_BrAVWHsR4f4niFEvPaCloxFjgSG21mI00suqZqITs5dWcmukFSRMt0SBuyiTNlnD2GEhAClfbYQ/s1600/Kaleva%20kosmogrammi.bmp" width="305" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></span><p></p>Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-16781507032728652022022-05-09T13:23:00.069+03:002022-11-07T11:49:23.021+02:00Coffee, room for empathy<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo2fFI-DABq6jMHBdAM6JI5WaBdG7ow2-sR0RgbNyuxeAm9OtbMwt5KRy-Y_4nUrq9NS60hDHs_m52bhWdTGeos5KLOz8QlUVT7CC9z1Zp1Jq_KW7N8B0G82GxCD2AieBT0iSg2IpsU70S7xDihTpApHsKrFk3bY9PyzhalhUDMSdzg3U2h4ZXMKs/s2048/09122012_122303_27.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo2fFI-DABq6jMHBdAM6JI5WaBdG7ow2-sR0RgbNyuxeAm9OtbMwt5KRy-Y_4nUrq9NS60hDHs_m52bhWdTGeos5KLOz8QlUVT7CC9z1Zp1Jq_KW7N8B0G82GxCD2AieBT0iSg2IpsU70S7xDihTpApHsKrFk3bY9PyzhalhUDMSdzg3U2h4ZXMKs/w300-h400/09122012_122303_27.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><p></p><p class="western" style="text-align: justify;">

The first time I went there was in September, 2010. And I confess, I fell in love with Russia, at the very first sight. Even though I was just visiting and day tripping. But when I returned home to Helsinki, I fell even more in love with Finland. I remember this all too damned well, it was one of those nights and moments of in-out-sight. I thought I understood something about the relations between Finland and Russia. In spiritual and esoteric circles both countries play a significant role in the cultural history of tomorrow, Finland as a bridge between the European culture and the Russian soul, in its purest form carrying the Grail consciousness. The reality of today's world shows another kind of face altogether. There may not be much one could do to help the X.X.X.X situation and the catastrophe to be solved, but the Truth will set you free as it has done before and as it will for ever more.</span></span></span></span></p><p class="western" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">There is a saying "tea and sympathy", that is quite common here in Finland. Maybe it is because of our beloved neighbour, who likes to drink tea? For my part, I have always been more like some Coffee-Grinder Man, at times even to the very bone. My old German friend and teacher told me during our last meeting years ago that his father used to say tea is for liars, coffee drinkers tell the truth. Well, my intention is not to repeat the same. I only wish to point out that we may need more coffee and room for empathy, rather than tea and sympathy. For empathy retains a healthy distance, while taking part in the other's feelings. Sympathy goes all the way becoming one with the other, without reflecting or distancing. This kind of activity leads to trouble, and usually a move towards antipathy will follow. Empathy could be seen as a kind of middle between these two opposed forces in the human soul. It is clear that we need all of these things, but it may not be wise to have more tea and sympathy. Though <b>coffee is really not that good, either</b>. In Truth, it has a tendency to bring out too much antipathy in us, creating the very need for some black tea party etc. Oh, I was just saying, it was just a saying.</span></p><p class="western" style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW3O-r5PCdAdoVAeJQg4_jyMKVt_83_yEbI2naR05EmIGCBywZUUpVA3K1bSKRSMZsRGagju0RED2rrJSf7UcXh3H_Tf8wSK-PDmy7wig3gNT37ulqWaDoeR8KFrgQpnWX-xd5H-dbeLG_OU4qySHyhavy07cK62GrgAIUK_x6qgYz5B4w0daRyACu/s2048/P1230163.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW3O-r5PCdAdoVAeJQg4_jyMKVt_83_yEbI2naR05EmIGCBywZUUpVA3K1bSKRSMZsRGagju0RED2rrJSf7UcXh3H_Tf8wSK-PDmy7wig3gNT37ulqWaDoeR8KFrgQpnWX-xd5H-dbeLG_OU4qySHyhavy07cK62GrgAIUK_x6qgYz5B4w0daRyACu/w400-h300/P1230163.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p class="western" style="text-align: justify;">"Pax tibi. Kun kesällä 2021 kävi lopulta selväksi, ettei sanomalehteen enää voi kirjoittaa, sain kuitenkin luvan julkaista vanhat <span style="background-color: white;"><i><a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/" target="_blank">Esseekolumnit</a></i>. </span>Takojaan olen kirjoittanut satunnaisesti vuodesta 2008 lähtien, ja 2020 viimeiseen numeroon saatoin julkaisukuntoon vanhan luonnoksen Ilmestyskirjan kynnyksiin liittyen. <i><a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/" style="background-color: white;" target="_blank">Hermeettisiä Kahvihetkiä</a></i> sisältää hartaudella ja huumorilla viimeisteltyjä ja viimeistelemättömiä tekstejä eri ajoilta ja hyvinkin eri suunnista. Huomionarvoisena mainittakoon teoksen viimeinen luku, <i>Fragmenteista kuvia</i> uuden ajan kahvilakeskusteluja varten, joka oli oma osuuteni pahamaineiseen <b>Väen Tunto</b> -esseekokoelmaan. Teksti on eräällä tavalla merkityksellisimpiä töitäni. Oma tekstini julkaistaan uudestaan kustantajan luvalla.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><i><a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/" style="background-color: white;" target="_blank">Ilmestyskirjan Kynnyksiä</a></i> käsittelee sellaisia ajankohtaisia ja ajattomia aiheita, joista on vaikea sanoa mitään täysin varmaa. Teos on tarkoitettu vapaan hengen ideaalia kohti käyville. Huolimatta joistakin kannanotoistaan sekä aihepiirien äärimmäisyydestä johtuen tekijä painottaa erilaisille näkemyksille olevan paikkansa ja oikeutuksensa.</span></div><p></p>Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-15201307086944721942021-09-05T01:31:00.047+03:002021-09-06T15:04:45.890+03:00Lyrics / Flor & Blancheflor again<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdq_v-77ViPfZAjZZBLLt1_YlcS_OrKXMWH0hkATWyVIRKzmbDR6Bo43Vpx3TFcQmPhiya1FI0a-RaguC_-1-s_zIR-TEV3mozLlKgemhM8aPQ0McQyWyol-k14mImUgIyJyyUq18zy-8/s497/lyricsfrontcover.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="497" data-original-width="384" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdq_v-77ViPfZAjZZBLLt1_YlcS_OrKXMWH0hkATWyVIRKzmbDR6Bo43Vpx3TFcQmPhiya1FI0a-RaguC_-1-s_zIR-TEV3mozLlKgemhM8aPQ0McQyWyol-k14mImUgIyJyyUq18zy-8/w309-h400/lyricsfrontcover.jpg" width="309" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">After seven long years, I have now changed the layout of <a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #d5a6bd;">Lyrics / Flor & Blancheflor</span></a>. It was first published on the <a href="https://mythicpoetry.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #d5a6bd;">Mythic Poetry</span></a> site late in December 2010 (and during the following months). In October 2011 on <i>Virta</i> zine's 8th issue there were many of the collection's poems in print. The Chapter I Strindberg, Hölderlin & Celan was also published in the anthroposophical culture magazine <i>Takoja</i> in three parts (issues 3/12, 4/12 and 2/13), each with an essay dealing with some of the main themes. In 2013 most of the remaining poems were published in <i>Virta</i> zine's issue 9, first in digital form (January), and later in print (June). Early versions of Chapter IV and V were published in <i>Virta</i> zine's issue 3 already in 2004. Chapter III was released in 2000, as "the story that was not sung" and the lyrics of Pathways & The Flowery March. Only the Letters in May fragments (in Chapters II and VI) did not appear in print before.........</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">A friend mentioned the Lulu self-publishing company, and in autumn 2013 <a href="https://www.lulu.com/spotlight/vaaka" target="_blank"><span style="color: #ead1dc;">Lyrics / Flor & Blancheflor</span></a> finally saw the light of day as a traditional printed book. I held a little party at my home in October (for a few beautiful guests and old friends, who played a part in it one way or the other). For a year I didn't touch the book at all. It would have been easy, but the themes and the lines had already been ground and roasted so well, that there was no point in going on for ever like that. However, in September 2014 I added a cursive font and a quote or two (for the first and the last poems), not really changing the letters, only their tone and surroundings. I tried to make the photos work for the poems, but I failed in the layout itself. And in the end of 2014, the book was approved for global distribution, which was an important milestone, but unfortunately the price was terrible. I could not affect this at all. And as the layout was a kind of (dis)aster, there was no way for the book to have what it needed. The good thing was that <i>Lyrics / Flor & Blancheflor</i> had some visibility, theoretically speaking, at least.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">When the time came for me to take up this work again, I really tried to get it done right. The bad thing was, I had to quit all the distribution channels and let the old version go. But the good thing is the book now has the best layout it ever had. A few minor changes were made into the text (of The Beautiful Chorus, taken from a note book written in 2014, and old brackets for the Black Wine, too) to honour "the tradition". The price is decent once again. For a book with 112 pages in colour, to pay 20 euros (plus the infernal postage, of course) is not so bad. I would like to see some reviews after all these years, even though the collection is old in today's standards. But it is "mythic poetry", for Christ's sake, is it not?</div><p></p>Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-1683199840376469572021-05-23T23:59:00.046+03:002023-11-17T06:04:13.940+02:00Latin Lover Akademeia<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrBInu_fDYVOMb9E39-mJ4rl0WD9gQMYfWwk7iQD7o5d3XC9SUmFqZ39WlmW4lB5bH0I3RZtg7-sB1mKdou6gPxqWTnk_VAwdh9nWLe3Rzy1ej5dIUXBsi0QtktSnxJBOOI2sxk9Bx4Y/s2048/IMG_20210522_193404.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1182" data-original-width="2048" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrBInu_fDYVOMb9E39-mJ4rl0WD9gQMYfWwk7iQD7o5d3XC9SUmFqZ39WlmW4lB5bH0I3RZtg7-sB1mKdou6gPxqWTnk_VAwdh9nWLe3Rzy1ej5dIUXBsi0QtktSnxJBOOI2sxk9Bx4Y/w400-h231/IMG_20210522_193404.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">(Epä)tieteelliset esseefragmentit yliopistovuosiltani 1999-2005 (sekä päättävä jälkikirjoitus toukokuulta 2007) ovat saaneet odottaa julkeistamistaan. Ja olinhan minä kirjoittanut vieraskirjaan Bathoryn <i>One Rode To Asa Bayn</i> sanoitukset ja epäasiallisia huomioita uskovaisuudesta. Soitin kappaleen antropologian johdantoseminaarissa (1998), osana ensimmäistä esitelmääni aiheesta "kuinka kulttuurit muuttuvat". Assistentti Ruohonen kiitteli tekoani vielä vuosien jälkeen. Tekstin viereen olin kirjoittanut: päättävä epätieteellinen jälkikirjoitus.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Olkoon teokseni otsikko <span style="background-color: white;"><a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/"><span style="color: #ff00fe;">Latin Lover Akademeia</span><span style="color: #0000ee;">.</span></a></span> Yritin suorittaa latinan alkeiskurssia jo keväällä 1999, siinä kuitenkaan onnistumatta. Tai ehkä olisi vain annettava olla.</p>Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-57881275794172896622021-03-25T19:37:00.047+02:002023-02-18T01:29:46.592+02:00Waldorf Henkeen<p></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8z_sjnUrR_gd2zowcRn3wavo6RsKQvsVD7uXeVdVt_IcVhh-Lnr7DtvFhRV27Kud_wfIFBYHGd0OHWKYZZUoXuatwK8shmG7EoajyVeORsgp9hhB4wEXoYN93vWVRD9txJWMK0tZ3vpQ/s2048/P8030073.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8z_sjnUrR_gd2zowcRn3wavo6RsKQvsVD7uXeVdVt_IcVhh-Lnr7DtvFhRV27Kud_wfIFBYHGd0OHWKYZZUoXuatwK8shmG7EoajyVeORsgp9hhB4wEXoYN93vWVRD9txJWMK0tZ3vpQ/w427-h320/P8030073.JPG" width="427" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Kirjani <a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/"><span style="color: #ffa400;">Waldorf Henkeen</span></a> kannessa on vesivärimaalauksia, jotka tein yleisopintovuodella (2009-2010) Snellman-korkeakoulussa. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBa7fJFpSM8ddiIPaz9kx4tKOoCGz5g8mEjKajwiTMTyny6SBp05wkj0sQYecveNI7BrMKkxgNaaA94M39bPoyNTcAEcKnQyMPwDwf6sO3LBFqF_dh-7jfUh5qo0oLlwd8iYH6af52rHY/s2048/P8030079.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="337" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBa7fJFpSM8ddiIPaz9kx4tKOoCGz5g8mEjKajwiTMTyny6SBp05wkj0sQYecveNI7BrMKkxgNaaA94M39bPoyNTcAEcKnQyMPwDwf6sO3LBFqF_dh-7jfUh5qo0oLlwd8iYH6af52rHY/w449-h337/P8030079.JPG" width="449" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">Ehkä tämänkaltainen ei-mitään-genreä edustava teos kykenee lähestymään teemoja, joiden käsittely virallisen akateemisen keskustelun puitteissa olisi ollut mahdotonta. Varmuudella voin sanoa kirjan olleen tekemisen arvoinen, uskallan mainostaa ehkä lukemisenkin arvoiseksi. Kokoamiseen liittyi vaiheita, joista on mainittava. </p>Antti Filppuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06693144030135250287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6493064095701106014.post-89918676899647767612020-09-17T22:48:00.031+03:002022-02-01T17:40:03.367+02:00Old Riga Romanticism<p></p><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGFtXzHnFViX_dbd1R0onsAl55wE5PmHMshtY_H-m-y_3ec6QqHD3L7O86IhdxJrOMLE_3QljSPFfC-2NjY6B6AGNsmS5JyyOD3Ls5PqEP9Jjjr80LjC_ot0FB08QfXdQfH-4cpWIMXP4/s1599/118614415_739923559899270_1804149714981421086_n.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1599" data-original-width="899" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGFtXzHnFViX_dbd1R0onsAl55wE5PmHMshtY_H-m-y_3ec6QqHD3L7O86IhdxJrOMLE_3QljSPFfC-2NjY6B6AGNsmS5JyyOD3Ls5PqEP9Jjjr80LjC_ot0FB08QfXdQfH-4cpWIMXP4/w360-h640/118614415_739923559899270_1804149714981421086_n.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The latest handmade empty book, b(r)ought from Old Riga in August 2020. Basel, the city of alchemy and humanism, in February 2020. Photos by Antti Filppu. I visited there shortly before the world changed and went under lockdown. For years I had not been anywhere, and even this little journey had been cancelled many times already. I wanted to have some of that good old perspective of a real tourist again. For various and quite obvious reasons, actually. Northern Switzerland has become familiar to me during the last decade and a half. I have been a few times to Dornach since 2008, but never had the chance to really see Basel itself. Was I destroying whatever little remains of my reputation there may have been left, with this ever-flowing talk of one and the same thing (I will not mention it now). Something else was needed here, for my old f(r)iends and all strangers, too. And if I was annoying, please just let it go by. I have been honest and searching for the truth, like most of you?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, now I have learned that love and grandmothers indeed make the world go around. And I saw "pictures of naked ladies" hanging on the wall, though not quite like Blackie Lawless himself. I went to Fondation Beyeler to see Claude Monet's water lilies, but the line was too long and winding. So I took a walk in the garden and found a free exhibition at the Kunst Raum Riehen. I decided to give it a try. There were Jenny Rova's beautiful features all over the place. I was moved when I came out of there. In the age of hard porn a few nude pictures don't really mean anything at all. But there was love and romance in those photos, and the surroundings were somehow resembling the ones I have come to know. I was really touched by the exhibition. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFW8hdWPLHxAQ3PJlrH2ZEg2fcubaGJxojF6VnE1THX3UZE0zY5S9w5iCaeliTh19UIqu0eZVBkEyKK_Lso4h6NDp8QRCJxmyax6q_SCR6Ku8izcgTeX5sFjh-ox-Q4D9HwjvtBKSU9eg/s2048/P2150060.JPG"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFW8hdWPLHxAQ3PJlrH2ZEg2fcubaGJxojF6VnE1THX3UZE0zY5S9w5iCaeliTh19UIqu0eZVBkEyKK_Lso4h6NDp8QRCJxmyax6q_SCR6Ku8izcgTeX5sFjh-ox-Q4D9HwjvtBKSU9eg/w400-h300/P2150060.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">About the grandmothers, I accidentally met a few older ladies during the weekend. We had conversations (in a tram and the hallway of an auditorium) that were meaningful and gave me a sense of purpose. I have always loved and believed in the grand mothers, for their human and warm-hearted wisdom. Somehow there is an endless wiseguy talk (of hate and despise) in this world. And it has been growing everywhere for years. The care of our elders has been questioned, and it works in both ways. We take care of them, and there is a kind of hidden flow of "something higher" given to us in return. This is how it has always been, although the ways differ. The ideal is the same. We need their thoughts and prayers more than we know. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Encouraged by this lady in a tram, I met Nietzsche once more. And following my own lines of work, I found Paracelsus in his old home, known as the Pharmaceutical museum. Not to mention Hermann Hesse, I stayed two nights in Hotel Krafft, where <i>The Steppenwolf </i>was<i> </i>written. For various and quite obvious reasons, to repeat myself again. There were many others, too. I had raclette and bought a few books. Even this poor little journey would not have been made without my beloved grandmother.</div>

Ukko-Koli Juhannuksena 2019.
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Maailma on kaunis ja hyvä elää sille</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Jolla on aikaa ja tilaa unelmille</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ja mielen vapaus, ja mielen vapaus</div>

Ja mielen vapaus, ja mielen vapaus</div>

On vapautta istua iltaa yksinänsä</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ja tuntea tutkia omaa sisintänsä</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ja elää elämäänsä, ja elää elämäänsä</div>

Der Angstweg, or Ahdistuspolku, was half-way opened to the public in July 2017, in Sigvartsby, Hamina, where the library of Alexandria was found again a few years earlier (in January 2013). The path leads to a field nearby, and there one could hear the city church bells ringing. The library has a collection of cultural and esoteric history, including a few gems. When I began collecting the books in the nineties, I did not know there would be a time when books have become rarities. Now the hour has come, and I am grateful that I continued the work during those lazy days when it seemed like a fool's quest. Alexandria has even received "a donation" from the library of Hamina; a collection of poetry books in Finnish. All the necessary items of cultural history are there to remind us of the past century's crazy or evil undertakings and erratic wanderings, from Hitler's <i>Mein Kampf</i> to Lenin's <i>State and Revolution</i> (in Finnish, among dozens of Marxist classics from the Soviet printing houses), and many things in between. Some hidden treasures balance the horrors; books like Pekka Ervast's <i>Christosophisia peruskysymyksiä I-II</i> and Friedrich Rittelmeyer's letters on <i>Meditation</i> (in Deutsch of course, dating from the times of crisis). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There are memories in the form of dedications, like the late Colin Wilson's <i>The Outsider</i>, fourth edition from 1956, with "warm regards". I met him at the library of Pasila in 2007, and he wondered where on earth did I get that book. And I still wonder, too. Even Aarni Kouta's less known <i>Lusiferin kannel</i> (signed by the maker) and <i>Ristin tie</i> are there. Showing the metamorphosis of a poet and thinker who was trying to get a hold of the higher spiritual truths opening in the darkness and light of the 20th century.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have obtained a few priceless ones from the Sophia cultural centre in Kallvik, like John Meyendorff's classic <i>Byzantine Theology</i>, with a dedication from the writer himself to the Archbishop Paul of Finland, and other works by the Orthodox Masters. Alexandria is located in a private house, but who knows, it may be open to public some day. And it has been possible to loan books from there, since the very beginning.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Syyskuussa 2007 istuin ensimmäistä kertaa Suomen antroposofisen liiton salissa ja ihmettelin, minne olin joutunut. Olinko lopultakin menettänyt viimeisen uskottavuuden rippeen akateemisen maailman ja ystävieni silmissä, ajautunut epämääräiseen lahkoon outojen ihmisten keskelle, syvälle huuhaan suohon?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div>

A view from our Kallvik balcony in 2012, hiding more than it reveals. The park hidden behind the trees is called Mustakivenpuisto (Blackstone park), and the sky belongs to Rastila (in English one could say Crossville). But it is a vague reference, because the houses visible are in Kallvik and only the horizon takes the watcher to another kind of X.X.X.X. There is also a meaningful shape drawn on the ground below, unseen to the eye in this picture, but concrete as logic in holy geometry, and referring to something truthful, as well (a triangle, with two open triangles on its sides and a square on top). I came to know what it feels like to be in somebody else's visionary dreams, taken into another individual's consciousness and plans. Ever since, I've been even more careful with my own poetry, and the ones I write about. God knows what's good and right for others.</span></div>

The title reminds of a duet I like, with Johnny Cash giving a beautifully conservative edge to Bob Dylan's 1960s folk protest ways. I'm an old-timer and my views are like that, in part at least. For I've always been an oppressive kind of guy, too. I'd like to underline it's making the cross heavier. Maybe that's why I like to see them get (along) together, these differing views and times. We are on a forward march, and there is no going back. However, the spirit of truth..... </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxJA_xGnke2xkYOAs-DDNOKvoFIkCz8ZMtQN5yGTprBnWJnIR8Jjb5gM0pA021FB1aKd4iVOfKOVJRib0HbjAQXmXNvwqwXtYxQW9FrJSG8runvG1tFaWaWFOlKKN3jFEOyvmXMXc075lv7GldPxkFoN7Z6HkOwyfvIneIIOZNv2AMCoRWqHPziDd/s2048/20111015_307.JPG" style="font-family: courier; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxJA_xGnke2xkYOAs-DDNOKvoFIkCz8ZMtQN5yGTprBnWJnIR8Jjb5gM0pA021FB1aKd4iVOfKOVJRib0HbjAQXmXNvwqwXtYxQW9FrJSG8runvG1tFaWaWFOlKKN3jFEOyvmXMXc075lv7GldPxkFoN7Z6HkOwyfvIneIIOZNv2AMCoRWqHPziDd/w400-h300/20111015_307.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: courier; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">"Malta, Valletta, in October 2011. <div style="text-align: justify;">
The end of July in 2016, captured by Laura Vilva. The place is called Sigvartsby, an old village near Hamina, where my parents live and where I spent my early youth in misery and pain. This picture tries to speak. It is the Master of the Mandolin, Tomi Pekkola, on the right. I am next to him, and we are playing Love itself or maybe Suzanne, on a garden party. My little sister Laura is on the left with my little daughter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One theme could be the bed where I had my first kiss of love. The room has a view over this garden and the apple trees. But it's not what I want to tell now. My little brother, who was born the next morning (in May 1995), told me a story about KISS. Paul Stanley said in an interview that sometimes the musing and the poetic atmosphere seem to be at odds with the reality. A good song could be written on a very thin story. The muse may be someone who only exchanges a few words with the poet, or just a glance. Neither does this mean that a poet who writes the song is caught up in it (although it could happen).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was my little brother's response to my whining. I had told him about my guitar, how it was named after St. Anne. There is a Lady of Romance, too. But only as a memory of the ballad of a thin man that happened to receive another verse or three. In the beginning of 2010 I was finishing my old collection of poetry (Flor & Blancheflor), and I walked the streets of Helsinki when someone passed by, who may have been the one whose initials were mentioned in a poem called The Thin Young Men. I sent her e-mail, telling about my poem and the initials. She did not respond. To my surprise, I'd soon receive a name for my new guitar, two alternative verses for Suzanne, and a part of the poem called Beautiful (detached from the original TYM). After a year or so I searched her out on the internet and realized a few odd synchronicities that seemed to relate to my songs and performances. I went too many times to see her (open access) profiles. The irony is, I made a clear decision not to approach her "in real life", because it could be trespassing already. Then a f(r)iend of mine wanted to take me along to see her, they had some business to deal with. This happened on the same day I'd give Virta 8 magazine's final version to Unigrafia printing house. When we met her I smiled in a foolish way, not saying anything or even introducing myself. She did not tell me anything, either, only introduced herself by name. They had a private discussion and after that my f(r)iend accused me of stalking. In vain I tried to tell him about "meaningful coincidences" (the poem with her initials would be printed after the meeting that never happened). Another reason behind this nonsense is that she was the one who gave me that image of Tryst, a meeting (place) of lovers, already in 2003. She had been like a muse, and I never understood why or how it came to be that way. Because we only met a few times, and pretty much nothing ever happened. Well, you know what..... Poetry is like that.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Kesäinen ilta Helsingissä 2004. Lähes tyhjässä elokuvateatterissa näytettiin Bernardo Bertoluccin ”The Dreamers”.
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Riidan päätteeksi lähdimme eri suuntiin. Ajauduin Moskva –baariin.
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Viime lokakuussa (2005) ilmestyi The Black Leaguen levy A Place Called Bad.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Noihin aikoihin olin alkanut kääntää Vysotskia suomeksi.

A LOSER WINS<span style="font-size: x-small;"> (excerpts from TBL forum, 2005) / AMF: "I should win because I don't have any god damn money to buy that Place Called Bad and I have all the other records of this extraordinary league of g-men. And because I am always pissed (off, on, in / out whatever), and I am always broke, and I'm pissed and I'm broke. And because you fucken Jarva Bastard stole my idea for a song, about bastard's difficulties of getting thru. Now I'll have to change the title of that song of mine, and it's your fault. So it would be just fair (and foul) to give this one lousy beggar a helping hand and a chance to get to hear some of the new sanguinary blues you have composed. Otherwise I'll just have to stick to the Muddy Waters collection from that Johnny Winter era, end-of-seventies kind of groove. And that ain't bad, but it ain't always "good" either to listen to the same old song every day, you know....... "</span></div>

It is good, not "bad". Some of the songs opened up right away, some of them insisted some more volume and some repeated listens before the groove and the doomsday blues started rolling. Best album from this league since Ichor? Hard to say, all albums have their own pathways and their own sounds. Lyrics got it all right, this Kaurismäki-Johnny Cash styled sense of pity and compassion for the wrecked and the worn out ones is something that the music pissness needs, methinks Ichor was a perfect album already but it didn't have the same amount of durch Mitleid wissend as this one has (and Ichor is one of the best "popular music records" ever made in Finland, its only serious problem being the loss of pity!)."</span></div>

<i>Dressed rehearsal rags called Thirst (or Antti Filppu and Ilkka Kosunen) performing at the secret White Room in December 2007, on their initiative concert, for an audience of one male and one female. There were many songs chosen, from Leonard Cohen and Hank Williams to Agustin Barrios. Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconne was played as an encore. The mic was well plugged in fair trade Oke banana box.</i></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It seems we / I have used various and popular cult(ure) forms such as "bands" etc in a way and with a content that is perhaps more related to the philosophy and history of the so-called high, contemporary or even performance art. Pop culture is less than 100 years old, and its time has gone already. The high culture began to lo[o]se in the sixties as is well documented (there are many quotations for that, but for historical reasons I will refer to Leonard Cohen, who sang about the sixties and<b> the changing of poetry into pop songs</b> - now, in the 21st century, it has all begun to change into something else). It is common knowledege that "high" and "pop" cultures have lost their borderlines long ago and the world is full
of various crossover works having characteristics from both. But in our / my work(s) we / I have been dealing with some of the<u> underlining themes</u> behind a common thread that is found everywhere.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What I am referring to is "quite simple and rather too complicated" at the same time.<u><b> And no one has</b></u><b><u> a copyright to these themes.</u></b> For lack of a better word and to honour performance artists like Joseph Beuys (and our own DIY-master, Erkki Pirtola), here I have decided to call these works of art, simply, THE MOVES, in no particular order:</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
So, the MOVES have been social in one way or another, and<b> this is only my point of view</b>. It may not concern the whole project or band itself. By the same token, it does not prevent me from stating this. And the social sculpture of Beuys is very much and always a part of it, <b>we are individuals and social beings in a spiritual reality</b>. I still owe my gratitude to everyone responsible. You made it real for me, and I have made these themes for you, too. Forgive me, if this doesn't sound right. But it's the truth, and nothing......</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have to confess the traditional forms of "performance art" have never appealed to me that much, I have been more interested in the hidden meanings and spirit (or structural side). And these MOVES have needed years or even decades to be formed. <b>They have taken place in a historical way, not so much as a performance</b> that happens in a certain place at a certain time. In a sense, this is what makes them new. THE SECOND MOVE has needed over 20 years (with only a handful of events / gigs and three or four "records" to be heard, but it has been an ongoing process with quite visible results as well). Some other MOVES have been done in 5-7 years. They have needed a series of points or events to unfold "historically", and this <i>unfolding</i> may have happened through single "performances" that resemble contemporary art / popular culture. THE FIRST MOVE is a bit like that. Then there are more literal MOVES that have been made in and for the literary circles. <b>With these words, I am merely stating what has actually happened</b> (and everyone could see for themselves what has been said before in interviews etc - like these apologies, everything moves in the same flow, at least, well, more or less?).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlUzx-TmcvVMYD8uDUyXJ7Zycp5xMeK6jlTVeCj_vMGqVxHijaA4XksnRFMbq4YgEuaE30dl_XGdMS82PhjUBkDuodvZrhjuMUYqsY9chmmFemVO9UevvTNy2CLIiMaBPFUnOTWWJLU3E/s1600/rockskuva.php.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="738" data-original-width="686" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlUzx-TmcvVMYD8uDUyXJ7Zycp5xMeK6jlTVeCj_vMGqVxHijaA4XksnRFMbq4YgEuaE30dl_XGdMS82PhjUBkDuodvZrhjuMUYqsY9chmmFemVO9UevvTNy2CLIiMaBPFUnOTWWJLU3E/s320/rockskuva.php.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I MOVE: Where does "live performance" change into something else, or the other way around? The questions about (un)officiality, audience / performer etc. From a concert played for birds and rabbits to performing on a real music festival, and everything in between. The Russian bard culture versus the American pop culture. These are also anthropological questions and problems.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
II-IV & VI MOVES: Where is the line in-between "a real band" and a musico-philosophical project, and why? How about the changing of band names, constantly, in order to prevent any kind of success in the material sense of the word? Or, could there be other reasons for doing that? What does it all mean, and where does it lead us? There are also numerous other questions and themes concerning these bands / projects (about staging and music theater forms, <b>disco dancing in death metal</b> etc), as[s] documented in the MOVES II-IV & VI.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
V MOVE: This move concerning our Virta culture magazine is debatable and questionable, but it could be mentioned here, nevertheless. There may be different views about the whole project, but the same thing applies to all the bands as well. So, I have been part of this (together with Mikko Nenonen, Matti Rautaniemi and Tuukka Vartiainen, and many others), and my role has changed during the years. The idea and the name "Virta" came up in a conversation I had with Olli Koski already in 2000 (he invented it, and yes, he is the legendary economist). Where is the line between "true" and "false" journalism, and why?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
VII MOVE: This one is the only quite literally conscious art work, and it has taken a lot of time, even more of strength, and most of whatever little money there ever was. Yes, I am exaggerating now, and purposefully so. Lyrics / Flor & Blancheflor was published in full colour with a real Finnish ISBN code, in 2013/2014, and it is the only Vaaka book officially available through internet (see AdLibris, Amazon etc). The price is close to terrible, and unfortunately I have not been able to decrease it. But the statement is what counts: where is the line between a real (published) book and something else, and why? For <b>there are three different levels in Lyrics: 1) the handwritten original manuscript 2) the traditional printed bookform and 3) the electric, free copy.</b> What is the line to be crossed, where a book becomes "real"? (Cf. in the old times all books were made by hand and they were single copies, and now we are living in a world where the printing machines have become antique - does not this open a new question concerning the origin and the birth of the BOOK itself?). I have also tried to promote handwriting as a therapeutic or pedagogical method. The Finnish Cultural Foundation has supported the making of this MOVE.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This picture was taken by myself, sometime between the fall of 2008 and the rise of 2009, in Alppila. We lived in a small cave on the ground floor. It was really halfway inside the rock, below the street. The bookshelf shows you many of those introduced in an earlier post (see January 2008), but also some books not mentioned before. Like The Book of Sophia ("Sofia"), begun in the summer of 2007, and still not quite finished. Or The Book of Goetheanum from 2008, which I have kept waiting. In the middle of the back row, with black covers, is The Book of Angels & Men ("Enkelit ja Ihmiset"), brought to me by Jussi Matikainen from Old Riga in 2005. It was ready before Easter 2010. And on the left, front row, the small book lying there, called The Book of Koli, was thrown away in 2011. I have saved the notes elsewhere. Below it, one can see another very small Book, named after Patmos. I bought it in Tallinn just before our visit to Greece in 2007, and it worked as a travel note book. From September to October 2007 I also used it as a note book on a lecture series. After graduating from the University of Helsinki (the department of cultural anthropology) I began another kind of study, or actually, continued on a path I had found long ago, before even getting into the world of anthropology. The questions I had been asking since the nineties were making way, with some answers, to many new questions................................<br />

<i> </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The esoterical themes may sound radical and looney-tooney, but I have tried to maintain a scientific and even sceptic (in the good sense of the word) approach to the topics. It is an unfortunate truth that these themes have been neglected and despised in the official scientific fields of research, and no good will come out of that. Many bad things have already happened because of the attitude problems in the academic world. It is crucial that honest research is being done also concerning the spiritual. But I still have faith in the old-fashioned humanist tradition, too, at least if it is understood in a certain way. The questions are there, and they are truthful as can be. For the real answers, there are no standards in any of the official sciences today. We need to save these quest(ion)s for the centuries to come.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">"Years ago I made the last changes to a certain book (Parsifal ja Klingsorin Maaginen Puutarha, 2007). But I still found myself editing. All through the years I had been finishing the work every once and in a while, trying to get it all together, including a few quotes to the original sketch (that could be found in the library of Helsinki university in one copy). But the version published in 2013 is still the same book, with some details and lines added or cleared out. If you want to buy / see the text, go to Vaaka bookstore (and my own<a href="https://antro8antro.wordpress.com/works/" target="_blank"> KAFENEION</a> archives). Available in Finnish only. But there are many long quotes in English, so one can try to guess what it is all about. Still, I wouldn't recommend the book to anyone, Finnish speaking or not. It is a crossover of anthropology, aesthetics (philosophy), comparative religion, anthroposophy and new age. I have notes and fragments for an English essay on the same subject, to be published later. Or maybe not, who knows."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
(All these texts were written earlier, but moved here to replace other fragments gone, like it has been with so many of them during these years.)</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Kuvan maalasi / otti Laura Vilva. Käsinkirjoitetut teokset aloittivat koko "kirjakustannusalan" kauan ennen keskiaikaa.

<br />
Tänä päivänä sellaisen mielenlaadun saavuttaminen on hyvin vaikeaa (tulematta hölmöläiseksi, mikä estää asioiden ymmärtämisen yhtälailla). Niin hullu en sentään ole, vaikka olenkin mahdollisesti jälleen epäonnistunut.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQOAfmqIiLOWsUIaNpwopUL9ZEWd9xLx9m3w_WRfxQx1ZBQOl1FWvRa1h2NFOUwT5QDT3kot7EomJmg-JuWrzoe6TS5IABu8F-yhsFigfFITDR87UIeRSlRVJB-FpYFSSKpZXwX2dtKD1_N3AyZZZ1ToNlH6mY1K61t80EPFRsMjE6SyEtRfuy_MOn/s2048/20141101_01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQOAfmqIiLOWsUIaNpwopUL9ZEWd9xLx9m3w_WRfxQx1ZBQOl1FWvRa1h2NFOUwT5QDT3kot7EomJmg-JuWrzoe6TS5IABu8F-yhsFigfFITDR87UIeRSlRVJB-FpYFSSKpZXwX2dtKD1_N3AyZZZ1ToNlH6mY1K61t80EPFRsMjE6SyEtRfuy_MOn/w300-h400/20141101_01.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">"Katariinan kirkko Tukholman Södermalmilla Pyhäinpäivänä. Tosin, jo keskiajalla etiopialaiset munkit valvoivat kahvin voimalla koko yön kestäneissä Jumalanpalveluksissaan.</div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The boardgame was designed by Antti Filppu and made by Veijo Pekkola in 1999. The (un)finishing lines were drawn in December 2006. I have tried several different rules for the game during the years. But it seems "the Temple of the Grail" will not be played at all. The whole point was the creation process itself, to have the style of chess and the romance of chivalry in it, reminding of the child's imagination and the adult's taste as well. References to the tradition of sacred geometry are all too visible, but they were not all meant to be there, initially. And the same could be said about the crossroads on this wood, the different views on the Grail theme that can be seen by those "who have eyes to see". </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Straight lines form gateways, while the circle has been squared. There are 22 letters or numbers in the sides, with the first and the last interchangeable in a way. This makes it compatible with the Greek ideas concerning 21/3 year phases, the Hebrew alphabet and the Tarot system as well. Choose your own. It works together with my collection of poetry, Flor & Blancheflor. See the Lyrics for more pictures of the boardgame.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"> My little sister brought me the knight in the middle of this picture (in the nineties already), and I can't forget but I don't remember who said the figure is not a man but a woman. And not just any woman, but the Maid of Orleans herself, Joan of Arc. Pictures taken by Antti Filppu. Below is the master of geometry himself in 2007.</div>

Master Pythagoras of Samos, who "neither affirms nor conceals but indicates" like the Delphi's Oracle, and "who handed down to us the tetraktys (1+2+3+4), containing the source and root of eternal nature". For the Harmony of the Spheres is "the bond uniting gods and mortals". (See Carmen Aureum, or J.Thom's Pythagorean Golden Verses).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>

"Few understand the deliverance from their troubles. Such is the fate that harms their minds: like tumbling stones they are borne hither and thither, suffering endless miseries. Father Zeus, you would surely deliver all from many evils, if you would show all... "</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"But take courage, for mortals have a divine origin, to whom Nature displays and shows each sacred object. If you have any share in this, you will master what I command you by means of a thorough cure, and you will save your soul from these sufferings."</div>

Kallvik area in Vuosaari is also known as "the Miami of Finland", because its architects went to Florida to take influences and to learn some lessons in city planning. Many of the streets and houses actually do remind a bit of Miami style, with the pastel shades and everything. But Kallvik hides another kind of reality, too. These pictures were taken by Antti Filppu on a romantic stroll in 2013.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Kallvik used to be the place where SuomiFilmi came to shoot many of its nature scenes. Situated by the end of a metro line, reached after a short walk, there is a haven waiting for the city pilgrim who makes it this far. Beginning at the strange-looking Black Stone's Park, one will see how the scenery changes with every step, slowly, to a different kind of atmosphere. Finally, there is a forest path with old and tall pine trees and a beautiful seascape, not unlike the ancient Byzantine paths found in the Greek islands. Kallistos Ware told us a few years ago on his visit to Sophia cultural centre, that "who ever does not love trees, does not love Christ", quoting once again his old teacher, saint Amphilocius of Patmos.</div>

Kulttuurikeskus ja kokoushotelli Sofia sijaitsee Vuosaaren Kallvikissa. Hagia Sofian kappelin lattia on peräisin Helsingin Taidemuseon seitsemän vuoden takaisesta ikoninäyttelystä. Kuviot noudattavat Kreikan Athos-vuoren luostareiden vastaavia.
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Pyhä Viisaus, Hagia Sofia, on nimetty Konstantinopolin / Istanbulin esikuvan mukaan, ja liitetään ortodoksisen kirkon piirissä erityisesti Kristukseen. Historiallisesti maailmalla hämmennystä ja erilaisia tulkintoja osakseen saanut "Viisaus" on yhä herättänyt keskustelua siitä, mihin sana todellisuudessa viittaa. Kreikan Sofia nähtiin jumalattarena. Heprean Chokmah kertoo Isän viisaudesta, joko sananlaskujen mukaisesti tyttärenä tai kirjaimellisesti saavuttamattoman "isällisen sanan" virran muodossa; viittauksissa ilmenee mystinen yhteys 10. ja 2. sefiran välillä, sekä erilaiset tulkintaperinteet rabbien keskuudessa, mikä kuvastaa todellisen juutalaisen esoteerisen perimätiedon laajuutta ja syvällisyyttä. Myös ortodoksiteologiassa on ollut monenlaisia käsityksiä. Sofiaa kuvattiin naisellisena enkelihahmona alla olevassa ikonissa, joka on kopio alunperin ilmeisesti vuonna 1674 maalatusta karjalaisesta Jumalan Viisaus -ikonista. Kristus on Sofian yläpuolella. Kuvat Antti Filppu.</div>

Viime vuosi(satoi)na "vaihtoehtopiireissä" on puhuttu Sofiasta kokonaan Kristuksesta erillisenä hahmona, jolloin jumalattaren itsenäistä ja esi-kristillistä kulttia on haluttu korostaa. Usein unohdetaan Kolminaisuuden olemukseen liittyvä tulkintaperinne. Toisaalta Pyhän Hengen "naisellisesta" luonteesta, samoin kuin Vapahtajasta sukupuolikysymysten tuolla puolen, on olemassa hyvin perusteltuja teologisia näkemyksiä. Niin ikään Isä-Jumalan määritelmästä on sanottu (esimerkiksi Kallistos Ware teoksessaan Ortodoksinen Tie), ettei se liity seksuaalisuuteen tai muihin inhimillisiin ongelmiin, vaan on pikemminkin "tekninen termi", joka on ihmisille annettu ylhäältä, syistä joita emme täysin osaa selittää. <b>Kyse on jumalallisista mysteereistä, joita ei voi lähestyä arkirationaalisten käsitteiden avulla, riippumatta siitä mihin itse uskoo tai on uskomatta.</b> Sydäntäsärkevää onkin huomata, miten kauas kirkkojen hengellinen dogmatiikka on saattanut joutua uudemmista filosofis-henkisistä tieteen ja taiteen näkemyksistä. Harhaoppiseksi julistettu nk. sofiologinen koulukunta vei ajattelunsa mielikuvituksellisten polkujen kautta. Pyhän Hengen ja Sofian yhteisistä piirteistä olisi kuitenkin hyvä puhua. (Uskontunnustuksessa mainittu Kyrios eli Herra tavallaan kaikuu myös toiseen enkelihierarkiaan kuuluvien olentojen nimessä Kyriotetes eli Herraudet, jotka tunnetaan "viisaudenhenkinä"; kansanomaisemmin ilmaistuna, herramaiset piirteet kohtaavat naisellisen viisauden tällä olemisen tasolla, puhumattakaan mystisen Pyhän Kolminaisuuden olemuksesta, joka on kaikkien hierarkioiden yläpuolella ja taustalla). Filosofian esoteeristen virtojen jääminen kirkollisten keskustelujen ulkopuolelle on lisännyt etäisyyttä jumalatarkultteihin, vaikka mahdollinen yhteys löytyi jo sata vuotta sitten. Kyse on mysteeriteistä. Ristiriitaa vanhojen ja uusien virtausten kohtalossa ei tarvitse olettaa olevan, vaikkei toinen ole halunnut tietää kristinuskon "mystisestä tosiasiasta" ja toinen on halunnut unohtaa "epäkristilliset" sofiamysteerit kokonaan.<br />

Snellman-korkeakoulun päärakennus "Taidetalo" Helsingin Jollaksessa. Radikaalina vaihtoehtona aloittanut, usein hippi-liikkeen piiriin kuuluvaksi leimattu steinerpedagoginen koulutuskeskus perustettiin vuonna 1980, jolloin sitä kutsuttiin Henkisen kasvun Snellman-korkeakouluksi. Nykyisin siellä opetetaan mielestäni joskus liiankin varovaista linjaa noudattaen. Yhteistyötä on tehty mm. (Kaikki kuvat Antti Filppu, lokakuu 2013.)</div>

<i>"Mutta olemme nyt kypsyneet avartamaan kokemuksemme, todellisuuden tajumme piiriä. Sellaista elämä on. Kaiken kaikkiaan on turha pohtia, kannattiko minun tulla tänne vai oliko tämä ajanhukkaa, sillä oppia sai koko rahan edestä monessakin mielessä. Onneksi myönteisiä kokemuksia oli tarpeeksi, kielteiset on helpompi kestää ja muistella niitäkin hyvällä.</div>

Viimeisimpänä kevään 2014 kurssilla kävimme läpi Goethen <i>Faustia</i> (1-2) ja Dostojevskin <i>Karamazovin veljeksiä</i>, ja opin kaksi tai kolmekin merkittävää asiaa. "On the 20th of September in
1957, Jean Sibelius died. His 5th symphony was performed in Helsinki
the same day. It had been his most beloved, and the one reminding him of 'a struggle with God'. The swans that had appeared to him while
watching the sky in Ainola's garden gave a name to the main theme of the
third movement, while he was still composing. There are two versions
of the 5th symphony, and there are years between the first and the
last. The famous Swan Theme is included in both of them, but while the
original one is longer, the final version imitates the flight of those
mythic birds in a more beautiful way." - From a note written and originally published in 2007</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I visited Ainola X.X.X.X years ago for the first time, and as some people have been joking at my
expense, in all honesty have to admit I was moved to tears while
standing in the garden and looking at the sky. The remembrance of the
swans had stayed there and it approached me. Was this because I had
somehow wanted it? I did not see them with my eyes, but I could feel
them - written into that place's memory. Sibelius is among the three
most important composers for me. I could listen to his symphonies
without an end. And I still see the nature-mythic spiritual Finnish landscape when I
hear that music."<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A decade ago <i>Spirits And August Light</i> was released. The making of this record in August-September 2002 had been so painful, including terrible mistakes (like the style of bullshit vocals in many of the songs) I thought would never be forgiven by myself, the audience or the other band members. The reviews finally came during the early Spring of 2003, with <i>Kerrang!</i> giving us 5/5 (the first Finnish band ever to receive that honour) etc. For so much wrong there must be something right? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I wasn't into metal anymore. But I had been called in, literally (a phone call in October 2000), to do this thing. One theme on the album is Minne, or "courtly love", as they named it in the Middle Ages. I guess the old saying about love enduring every hardship and suffering all wasn't invented out of nothing. I can't blame the musicians or the metal scene demanding low frequencies and demons to come out and play. Who is responsible for the heavy load of X.X.X.X that would make the spirit of this record shine so strange, with Amor gone crazy, too. And who felt afire.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Today I brought the old-and-broken disc (released by the late Rage of Achilles) down from the attic and put on my cd-player to give it a little spin. The guitar sounds are great, the riffs are well crafted and there is an epic atmosphere at times. But when the vocals are added, it becomes different. Maybe that was the recipe for the fine reviews and the reputation this record would slowly get. It was all because of human weakness and failure that it ended up sounding like this. Had we done what we were supposed to do, there would have been nice by-the-book ripping off. Had we succeeded in this, SAAL could have been a bombastic and fantastic one. Or maybe not. There were enough copycats in the business. And we had already made our own style and way with our power metal MCD <i>Steal the Light </i>the previous year. Why not continue doing something unique. After a maidenesque 5-piece it was time to give them a dirty piece of shit. Almost as if the band had changed to another. And this progress would continue on the next one, also. <i>Years in Waste</i> (2004) does have a sound of its own, and it is (not) the same band that made....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg51xfxxbc8wXHJ6EnRoqdIB_6LGKzZ70Xe8M_H3hZ9vrhcG4N5LMkbwUGykzKNOX1LDZ3C6bL7MAHxbcg2THSM0KNVrSycysf8WkIcJimdk4DqLpInzg8hqo1vBKojsWq-yIPDKHgJJcY/s1600/Years_in_Waste_cover.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg51xfxxbc8wXHJ6EnRoqdIB_6LGKzZ70Xe8M_H3hZ9vrhcG4N5LMkbwUGykzKNOX1LDZ3C6bL7MAHxbcg2THSM0KNVrSycysf8WkIcJimdk4DqLpInzg8hqo1vBKojsWq-yIPDKHgJJcY/s400/Years_in_Waste_cover.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The lesson is, what makes an aesthetic work is the amount of love, even a small amount is enough to save the day in the end. You may not realize it at once, but it will get through to you as the years go by. The working title of SAAL was <b>The Summer of Love, Rock N Roll & Death Metal</b>, and we had plans to make a video with the drummer Jarmo Pikka wearing bahama shorts and drinking coctails in the sunshine, while me and Markus are driving around the streets of Kotka, looking cheesy and stupid, smiling like morons. That's the way it was meant to be in the note books. And when you look at <b>the history of yesterday</b>, that is how many bands would eventually make it. I can't say we invented this trend, but it was our idea and no one was doing it those times. I am talking about how things were in the so-called "death metal world" around 2002, for you to get it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the spirit(s) of August all kinds of things were getting involved. I have heard many bad boys and girls like SAAL because they think it's evil. It is good if they like it. Certainly there is evil ("with vocals that lift them out of any black metal pit", said the Almighty press). There is also good, although it's not so easy to see, especially if you do not want to see it. Like it is with so many of us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And the fact is, despite a few raging reviews, no one was that interested in the band ten years ago. It would take a long time before SAAL actually hit the stores here in Finland. We were just losers who had failed to do a decent record. And I had carried a lot of shame for it all. Therefore, I almost quit the band in September-October 2002, because I really thought the failure was too much to bear. But in the end I could not let it be (like that). Slowly, the reputation of <i>Spirits and August Light</i> would become what it is nowadays. <b>Where ever you may go, ti amo?</b></div>

Kolilla 15. maaliskuuta, Lasaruksen lauantaina 2008. Etelä-Suomessa ei ollut lunta koko talvena, joten ensimmäisellä Kolin matkallani sain nähdä talven ensilumet, kevään jo tehdessä tuloaan. Kuvat Antti Filppu. Alla on katkelmia Takojan numerosta 2/08. </i></div>

Kalevalainen kieli on jo itsessään musiikillista, ääneen lausuttuna siinä on parantavaa voimaa. <br />

"En tiennyt mitään <i>Uuden Laulun Kalevalastakaan</i>. Riippumatta siitä, mitä itse kukin on mieltä teoksesta, sen olemassaolosta vaikeneminen julkisuudessa on käsittämätöntä. "Miksei Lönnrotin ajoista voisi kokeilla mennä eteenpäin? Ja miksei laulua voisi jatkaa nykyajan tyylillä? Huunonen puhuu <i>Uuden Laulun Kalevalan</i> johdannossa Lönnrotin <i>Kalevalasta</i> Inspiratiivisen tietoisuuden ilmentymänä, erotuksena varhaisempien ja 'oikeiden' runonlaulajien Imaginatiivisesta tietoisuudesta.

Vähän kerrassaan uudenlainen sisäinen tuntuma on alkanut hahmottua.

<br />
The Medieval Oberufer Play "The Shepherds" was performed at the Michael Hall of Rudolf Steiner school in Helsinki, December 2007 (and again in December 2010 at the Snellman College). Me and Laura were asked to come along. I have to say this has been one of the highlights of my career, as the version here was not "another Christmas play".<br />
<br />
It was <b>real mythic theatre</b> on a stage where something sacred could be felt or sensed. The atmosphere was beautiful, warm and heart-moving. This was a perfect way for me to approach the story itself, that otherwise seems so difficult. The post-modern culture we are still living in tries to keep the Door of Perception closed from us (with a similar dead end in the so-called Bible belt movements, those who want to open their "religion" in a fundamental way). It seems that mythic theatre is the key to this door, because it covers a wide space in "the collective unconscious", wide enough to touch the souls of the audience, each in their own way, without being subject to criticism in any of its guises, from irony or nihilism to God knows what else (and the dis-guises have been ever increasing in numbers, even more so lately).</div>

It is quite easy to lose sight of the level of consciousness myths have enshrined for us, and therefore it is necessary to remind people of its existence. Or at the very least that there is much more than meets the eye (at first or even second sight). In December 2007 I played a minor part in the role of Rufinus, the inn-keeper who doesn't welcome the strangers, for his guesthouse is already booked. Later I had a main role, as one of the shepherds. They are simple men who have compassion in their hearts, and so the archangel Gabriel appears to them in their sleep. (The events are from the Gospel of Luke, and somehow bring to mind some of the teachings of Buddha.)<br />
<br />
In Oberufer plays all the actors form a kind of chorus resembling that of ancient Greek, and they walk around the stage and audience, while singing folkish tunes. These moments also work as a transition between the different chapters of the play. The effect is real and powerful, to say the least.<br />

Epiphany,
2010. The Oberufer Folkplay "Three Wise Kings" was acted out at the
Michael Hall in Lehtikuusentie, Helsinki. It was the second time in a
row, the first being played a year before. They were both unique, for different reasons.<br />
<br />
The Magi come a long way, following the star in the heavens, known as the Hexagram (also the image of astral forces in man). The astrological story tells us that Saturn and Jupiter form a similar picture with their movements every now and then, and the wise kings knew about these esoteric dimensions. Around the time of birth described in the Gospel of Matthew there was a spectacular constellation taking place. The Magi went searching for their new-born Master Zarathustra. In the Oberufer play one of the kings refers to this astrological side in a clear but folkish way. The blue photos were taken by Petri
Mikkola.</div>

The Austrian linguist and historian Karl Julius Schröer collected these medieval folk-plays near Bratislava, where the small village of Oberufer was located. There was still a German colony where both Protestant and Catholic people had been living in surroundings that were somehow untouched by the modern progress. Something of the unique, pure and authentic medieval German style had been preserved in their Christmas traditions. Schröer showed these Oberufer plays to his young student at the Viennese university, Rudolf Steiner, who would take it all very seriously (and eventually to the stage of Goetheanum). The founder of the Christian Community in Finland, Helmer Knutar, said plays like this are always contemporary and ever new, giving people a chance to re-interpret endlessly. So, these topics are never out-of-date.<br />
<br />
In January 2010 I played the part of Joseph, but in January 2009 it had been my time to be the Devil. And together with my friend Herodes (Markku Maula), we gave them hell on stage. You wouldn't believe it by looking at the picture below, but the atmosphere was infernal, even so much that no one asked me to play the Devil again. I used a throat sound from the old school, for better or worse. I had heard about the way Steiner was acting out the role of the Devil, and this may have affected my behaviour. As it happened, it was not my intention to scare a child in the audience. But unlike <i>The Shepherds</i>, this is not a play for little children. Of course, after decades of Satanic imagery, none of our teenagers is going to be shocked by anything seen on stage anymore. Spiritually speaking, it was quite a show. I am not being that serious.</div>
</div>
</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The make-up was done by a professional from the Finnish National Opera. Notice the medieval street-theater look. My mask had some resemblance to the corpse paint used in black metal (and I had the old black leather jeans and my worn-out, rotten boots left over from the ancient times). Had there not been a few "spiritual elders" present, I may not have dared to do this at all. There are no pictures or records of the play itself. And no electricity or machines of any kind were used (except the lights of course). Now you still wouldn't believe, and I'm just saying. You don't have to believe. But those who were there in the audience may disagree with you.</div>

Limnos, Greece, September 2009, photos and a few words by Antti Filppu, otherwise it's all Cohen's. And ass above, so below are some alternatives for the three verses and the middle chorus, written and arranged for <i>Suzanne</i> in January 2010. The old poets did this all the time, but there are differing views whether or not changing the verses for legendary pop-songs is a good or a bad idea. Either way, I could not help myself.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
They are leaning out for love</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And they will lean that way for ever</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While Anne leaves you longing</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc4RJn42gIC7MJ92THVA9_95Jd-R31aoCja9_QRQ3aj9gWKMKJoPoipjcmDyrWLK9Xoscb_dgE0Pss5kwBQ8wjSRYYDNp7M-TPgIbXx0WhHcqsULQzm8-JU9gVSRsCE-f-IFFhcmo1Epw3fNpVuAYOGLTCPQYYdmTNDLpPErftuuKuHCLXzLAp4jYN/s2048/P9060184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc4RJn42gIC7MJ92THVA9_95Jd-R31aoCja9_QRQ3aj9gWKMKJoPoipjcmDyrWLK9Xoscb_dgE0Pss5kwBQ8wjSRYYDNp7M-TPgIbXx0WhHcqsULQzm8-JU9gVSRsCE-f-IFFhcmo1Epw3fNpVuAYOGLTCPQYYdmTNDLpPErftuuKuHCLXzLAp4jYN/s320/P9060184.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: black;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;">"This picture was taken in September 2007 on Paros, the village of Naousa. We were having a good time, and I would lose my heart for Greece. All the others were drinking cold frappe despite my warnings (as they were not professional coffee drinkers like me). But now I have chosen this photo to represent Xenia Oecumenica, hospitality concerning the whole world. The way I see it, ecumenia is not only about dialogue and co-operation within the divided Christian churches. For me it has to do with the whole world, as the word itself actually stands for. Between all religions and cultures, that is. I am aware that it's no good when trying to blend everything. This is not what Xenia Oecumenica means for me. Neither is it a synonym for perennial philosophy. There is the same spirit that made the old ecumenia. But this one is wider and more... Well, maybe you know what I am referring to. At least I hope so."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The quote was written and published here, then removed but it seems not for good. Maybe it was for the best, then. There haven't been too many journeys, perhaps that is the reason I am not ashamed to show off. I am not a traveller, like most of us. I am a tenderfoot, but I have walked a long way. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
